In september, sleepless nights, diapers, puke, crying… oh the joys of parenthood. alright, maybe we can wait… lol.

For lack of a better choice, I am a Rogers Cable and Extreme High speed customer as well as a Fido customer. Not only am I very dissatisfied with the service I have been getting, it appears we are being charged more and more and getting crappier and crappier service(those are the cleanest words I can find).
A few months ago, I received a letter that Rogers would be charging an extra 5.00$ to my internet service, fine. They also bumped up my speed from 5 MB to 6MB, but at the same time I noticed everything started getting slower and slower and I wondered why despite the speed increase. From my readings on the internet, I’ve found that Rogers are engaging in traffic shaping. For those of you who do not know what traffic shaping is, it is an attempt to control computer network traffic in order to optimize other “more important” traffic… what does that mean you ask? it means that if you are not doing basic surfing and email, your speeds will be fine. Anything else, your speeds will be slow… now you know why it is nearly impossible to VPN into your office. now you know why your torrents are taking forever to download.
Is this acceptable? I certainly don’t believe so, it is false advertising. Does GM govern which speed you drive your brand new corvette at? Does Bell decide how fast you can and can’t talk over the phone? In the best terms I have found, this is complete BS.
I also remember a few years back when Rogers had DNS server failures WEEKLY, in which I was lucky enough to use some other ISP’s DNS servers and I would get a full 3 MB bandwidth(at that time) because everybody else on my node was dead in the water. I could only think at the poor saps that paid for this unstable service and had no work around until Rogers fixed the DNS servers. Most of you don’t remember that, I just thought I would put it out there and bring to light the type of mediocrity we have put up with and are continuing to put up with. I couldn’t believe Rogers was actually charging for such a shoddy service… but that’s rogers for you.
Okay, that’s enough with cable internet, where to now? Oh yeah, wireless service. I’ve been a Fido subscriber for many many years, in fact, when I call up Customer service, they call me mister. Okay, maybe not, but one CSR could not believe how long I had been a subscriber. Today, I wonder the same thing. I have been very happy with the service I have gotten until Rogers bought them out.
I remember trying to call my mom on her Rogers wireless cellphone a few years back and not being able to get through to her. I happen to be next to a Rogers kiosk, in which I stepped in and ask if there was something up. The guy said that the network was down in which I just laughed, walked away and thanked God I wasn’t a Rogers subscriber. Little did I know I was going to be at the receiving end of all this BS a few years later. Fast forward to the beginning of June this year… yup… Rogers wireless went down, no phonecalls, no sms, nothing for me. Dah well, I got to enjoy friday.
Once Rogers bought Fido, CityFido(unlimited calls) was discontinued, unlimited GPRS(unlimited data) was discontinued(I believe) right off the bat. Then, Fido got the ass end of all new phones and new deals. Rogers has hung up Fido and Fido customers to dry… Rogers treatment at it’s best.
Last week, I’m shopping for wireless data in order to keep in touch with my websites, I find out that we do not have unlimited wireless data in Canada. Not only that, but some third world countries have better wireless data rates than we do. See chart below

So, I come accross an old unlimited rogers blackberry data plan on the rogers website. intrigued, I continue reading and find that it is unlimited to 25 MB. That’s like GM saying you can only drive your car for 250 KM in which case you will be charged for excess driving.
With all that being said, I am disgusted with how Rogers operates. Unfortunatly, I have no other option to continue taking it up the backside until I find a better alternative.
